Edsons is a family owned business specialising in high end residential bespoke joinery that have been trading continuously since 1885. All Edsons staff are time served craftsmen with many years’ experience of producing high quality joinery and cabinetwork.

A unique opportunity has arisen for a school leaver to join our experienced workshop, as a full time apprentice in the following areas, based at our premises in Calverton, Nottinghamshire: 

– Bench Joiner / Cabinet Maker
– Furniture Finisher
– Wood Machinist

 There are no required qualifications and applicants do not need to have previous work experience within manufacturing, as the successful candidate will be enrolled on an NVQ training course, alongside a 24 month in-house training programme. That being said, candidates must have a keen attitude for learning, strive to be the best and possess a keen eye for detail. 

BENCH JOINER/CABINET MAKER

Duties will include:

  • Assist in manufacturing high quality cabinetry.
  • Learning to work with full construction drawings (3D and Inventor.)
  • Learning to use machinery and hand tools.
  • Working with all types of solid and sheet materials. 
  • Training given in all departments of the business. 
     

Candidate Specification:
Essential

  • Interest in joinery/cabinet making.
  • Eager attitude for learning. 
  • Keen eye for detail.
  • Good numeracy and literacy skills.
  • Good communication skills, both written and verbal. 
  • Good problem-solving skills.
  • The ability to work alone as well as part of a team.
  • The ability to meet strict deadlines. 
  • Good organisational skills.
 

Desirable

  • Portfolio of any works previously manufactured – school or college work relating to construction and/or design.
  • Full/clean driving licence (age applicable.)
  • Practically minded.
  • Bench joinery knowledge and skill.

FURNITURE FINISHER

Duties will include:

  • Assist in the finishing of high quality cabinetry.
  • Learning to work with full construction drawings (3D and Inventor.)
  • Learning to use traditional as well as modern finishes.
  • Working with all types of solid and sheet materials. 
  • Training given in all departments of the business. 
 

Candidate Specification:

Duties will include:

  • Assist in the finishing of high quality cabinetry.
  • Learning to work with full construction drawings (3D and Inventor.)
  • Learning to use traditional woodworking machinery.
  • Specific training to use CNC router and panel sizing machines.
  • Working with all types of solid and sheet materials. 
  • Training given in all departments of the business.
